A Probable History of the Golden Family
of Newberry, South Carolina Since 1761

Introduction

Our Nathanel Green Goldens of Newberry, South Carolina (b1783) have kinship from this line of Morgans:

Benjamin Francis (Franklin) Morgan Sr, 1762–1835, and Sarah Francis Perry, 1767–1845.

Ancestry.com’s Thrulines often indicates another set of Morgans as having a path back to the Morgans above. This is a false match, probably because both Morgans were in South Carolina after 1750 and because there is a second set of Morgans in the DNA match that are not shown in the match’s genealogy.

This quickly becomes apparent about 1820 when the two Morgan families do not genealogically connect even though Ancestry’s Thrulines has connected them.

The DNA false connection will usually be with a lineage leading to:

Benjamin Franklin Morgan (Mozely), 1859–1924, which leads to Jeremiah Morgan, 1787–1859, and Sarah “Sally” B Winn, 1798–1850, and/or to Jeremiah’s parents Henry Morgan, 1760–1840 and Mary Hopkins, 1779–1860. Jeremiah Morgan was supposedly born about 1787 in South Carolina so this may contribute to Ancestry correlating this Morgan line with our own due to there being a DNA match.

!! If the mismatched DNA connection has a lineage for both parents then our Morgans should appear via the other parent in the match, often via the Teague family which married with our Morgans.

? Could both lines of these Morgans be related? IDK. Both come from Wales. Our Morgans were in the USA in Massachusetts by the mid-1650s. The Benjamin / Jeremiah / Henry Morgan line track back to Colonel Morgan Morgan who arrived from Wales in 1713 at Connecticut before moving on to what is now West Virginia.

The individuals below may appear in your DNA matches.
