1790: Not listed in census. Age 20 if 1770 is year of birth.

1798: Married? Samuel Golden and Lydia Parrish married in 1798?  1798 is probably correct as their first son James Golden was born in 1799. See 1809.

1800: Not listed in census. Would have been age 30. Married in 1798. May have lived with wife Lydia Parrish‘s parents — her parents were probably locals but no available info about them. Census for William and Nellie Golden show that males were under age 15 and above 45. Samuel was not living with them.

Alternative census listing for Samuel Golden:  The 1800 census listing for brother Thomas W. Golden showed Thomas living three homesteads over from Aaron Etheridge, a cousin. 1809: Samuel Golden and Lydia Parrish married per the book ‘Days of Yore, The.  Ancestry of Wallace Pratt Hamby and Vesta Lancaster‘. Lydia’s birth year given as 1764, although most family genealogies consider c1775 as more accurate. … Samuel and Lydia probably married in 1798, even if it was a common law marriage. Their first child was born in 1799 (James Golden), followed another in 1805 (Mary Elizabeth Golden) and 1809 (Henry Alexander Golden). 1810: Edgefield, South CarolinaSamuel Golden lived three homesteads away from Anthony Funderburg. William and Nellie’s daughter Sarah Frances Golden married into the Funderburgs. Samuel Golden lived several miles/census pages away from the two neighbors of William Cotney and Joel Etheridge. William and Nellie’s daughter Margaret Frances Golden married into the Cotneys. Joel Etheridge was a cousin, and an Etheridge may have been a mother to our Goldens.
