Heritage, Civil War and Our Goldens

Listed below are those Goldens that gave military service during the Civil War, 1861-1865.

William H. Golden
Born: 1846, Pickens, SC
Son of: John Richard “Dickey” Golden, 1815 – 1887, and Martha Hughes, 1820 – 1880.
Unit: Company C, 1st South Carolina Rifles Regiment
—- Notes: Company C came from Pickens County. Oddly, William’s military record is marked as having also served in Orr’s Rifles, which was Company D, with unit members came from  Anderson District (County). Military service is recorded on Film Number: M381 roll 13.
My relationship: 1st cousin 3x removed.
— Genealogy: It is uncertain what happened to William. I can find no discharge record, nor record of death. The family of John Richard “Dickey” Golden is well documented but there seems to be no family history for William H. Golden. There is a William in the 1870 census at Greenwood, Abbeville, South Carolina, that was born in 1846.
