“A DEATH IN THE COUNTY”

“This morning at 1 o’clock, at the family residence in this county, three miles east of Lovelaceville, Mr. Henry Golden breathed his last, after a year’s illness of consumption of the bowels, aged fifty-seven years. Mr. Golden was a native of Weakley county, Tennessee, but for the past twenty-five or thirty years has lived in this state, and in and about the section where he died. He was an excellent farmer and a most worthy gentleman and dies leaving a host of friends. A widow and five daughters and one son, the latter a Baptist minister in Indiana, are left to mourn his death and his absence. With them a large acquaintance deeply sympathize. The remains will be buried to-morrow forenoon at Ditney Hill church, in Graves county near the county line.”

Some genealogies list:

  • Henry’s middle name as ‘Alexander’.
  • Henry’s parents as Samuel Golden (1770-1857) and Lydia (1776-). This is probably not likely as both parents would have been 50+ at the time of Henry’s birth.
  • 1880 Census records should that the daughter “Betty” or “Bettie” born in 1864 is listed in the census as Sarah Elizabeth Golden.
  • 1860 Census: Allora A. Golden listed as Press Golden; Sarah Golden (mother) listed as Sallie Golden.
