Korean War – 1953 – ‘There Stands the Glass’ by Webb Pierce
My father John Henry Golden made it to Korea in early 1953 for some very nasty fighting as a USMC tanker.
After they pulled the Marines back off the combat lines in Korea for a short break, this is supposedly the song that my father looked forward to hearing the most … and putting the words into action.
Per Wikipedia: “There Stands the Glass” is a country song that was written by Russ Hull, Mary Jean Shurtz and Audrey Greisham, and was a hit for Webb Pierce in 1953. It was Pierce’s fifth release to hit number one on the country charts. Pierce’s recording spent 27 weeks on the country charts, and was at #1 for 12 weeks.
John Golden is the son of Henry Roosevelt and Readie Mae Golden of Jefferson County, Alabama.
