William T. Golding was born about1857 in Madison County, Florida, to Ira Griffin Golding (1832 – 1890) and Rebecca Vann Cobb (1834 – 1920). His family would soon after move to Brooks County, in Georgia. Brooks County is just across the state line from Madison County.
He married Sallie Humphreys (1864 – 1943) in 1882.
William T. Golding passed away 27 Dec 1948 in Brooks County, Georgia.

Children of William and Sallie Golding:
- Griffin Walter Golding (1886 – 1970)
- Viola Golding (1887 – aft 1930)
- Bill Humphrey “Umph” Golding (1889 – 1971)
- James Ray “Ray” Golding (1895 – aft 1930; was living in Washington DC in 1930 census, listed as James R Gelding)
- Willie May Golding (1896 – aft 1930)
- Thelma “Sallie” Golding (1898 – 1990)
- John Golding (1902 –after 1910; not in 1920 census)
- Mary Golding (1904 – after 1930)
Peculiar to the 1900 census is that a Charlie Beltcher, age 8, is listed living with the family. He is listed as a ‘servant’ and as a ‘son’. He could have been the son of a servant with the Golding family, but there were otherwise only Goldings listed as living in the home. Charlie does not appear in the 1920 census.
