From Sgt Golding’s Funeral announcement
ADDISON, MAINE – Nicholes D. Golding, 24, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, in Ghanzni, Afghanistan, serving the cause of Freedom. He was born Jan. 30, 1980, in Blue Hill, the son of Darwin M. and Cynthia (Lloyd) Golding. Nick was a graduate of Narraguagus High School, Class of 1998. Influenced by the memory of his grandfather, Nick joined the U.S. Army after graduation, where he prospered into the exceptional non commissioned officer, husband, and father that made us all proud. He had an enduring devotion not only to the military and his country, but to his family and friends as well. Nick married Heidi Christiansen, his high school sweetheart, while home on leave after basic training on Oct. 16, 1998. He enjoyed military life, and took great pride in his uniform and all that it entailed. He accepted his assignment to Afghanistan as his duty and served his country well. Nick will be loved and missed. In addition to his wife, Nick is survived by two children, Christopher Nicholas Golding and Bailey Nichole Golding, all of Harrington; his father, Darwin M. Golding of Addison; his mother, Cynthia M. Coffin of Steuben; his paternal grandmother, Ramona Golding of Harrington; his maternal grandmother, Patricia Tibbetts; his mother and father-in-law, who considered Nick one of their own, Linda and Charles Christiansen of Harrington; a sister, Holly Andrews of Sorrento; a brother-in-law, Charles Christiansen Jr. of Harrington; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Fletcher and her husband, Ryan, of New Hampshire; five uncles; two aunts; three nieces; and many cousins, extended family members and friends. Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Church St., Cherryfield, with the Rev. Michael Sheridan, pastor, presider. Nick will be buried at Church Hill Cemetery in Addison, overlooking the Pleasant River, where he enjoyed his childhood and Maine’s natural beauty. Committal services will be conducted by the Rev. Sheridan and full military honors accompaniment. A memorial reception will be held following the interment service at the American Legion Hall in Cherryfield. A memorial register is available online at Legacy.com.
Coming to America
SGT Nicholes Golding‘s line of Goldings comes from Harry Golding, born in 1871. Harry immigrated to the USA in 1885 via the ship ‘City of Richmond‘. Point of origination was Liverpool, England and destination point was Queens, New York. This ship brought a new line of Goldings to America. Note: there are a number of Harry Goldings born about 1871 in England that entered the USA repeatedly via ship through 1910. It may be that Harry returned to England on several occasions.
