The grandfather of Jonathan is believed to be John Golden (1785-1818) and his grandfather is William M. Golding (1730-1812).
This is a branch of the William Golding (1704-1782) and Elizabeth Foster (1704-1775) family of Orange, Virginia
>> There is an alternative story that Jonathan’s father Willis’ father was John Golding or Golden born in Culpeper County, Virginia in 1750 and died in Valley Spring, Harrison County, West Virginia in 1816.
Definitive records exist for neither parentage. HOWEVER, a YDNA test would determine if Jonathan is descended from the William Golding/Elizabeth Foster.
