Golden Genealogy and Family History

The individuals below may appear in your DNA matches.

Thomas Golden of Middlesex County, Virginia began showing up in my DNA matches after numerous members of the Goare and Gore families took DNA tests. Matches with some Gore family male members exist and they have a well-documented line back to the 1600s, preceding Thomas Golden‘s existence in Middlesex.

As of 2022, the only two known records of Thomas Golden is his 12 Jan 1708 marriage at Christ Church Parish, Virginia, to Eliza Goare. Their daughter Mary Golden was christened on 5 Nov 1710 at Christ Church Parish, Virginia.  [1]Source: Christ Church Parish, Virginia Births, 1653-1812; National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Parish Register of Christ Church, Middlesex County, … Continue reading Mary’s parents are listed as Thomas Golder and Elizabeth Golder.

As of Jan 2023, four living Gore surname lines have been identified as Ancestry DNA matches. [2]No doubt exists that many more Gore direct-line surname DNA matches exist with our Goldens; they just have not be explored yet. An initial review of other Goldens from different lines that separated … Continue reading Each lead to Joseph Joshua Gore, 1651–1717, and Phoebe Hughes, 1645–1679. Their son Joseph Joshua Goare/Gore, 1666–1726, and Mary Allison, 1671–1708, Elizabeth Goare/Gore, 1692–1709, who would marry Thomas Golden. Goalder / Goader Mystery

There are living Goalders today (2024) and they come from the eastern James River region of Virginia, on both sides of the river. None of our Goldens have any DNA matches with ANY family named Goalder OR with any family that has Goalder or Goader in their trees. This includes Golder as well.

? The lone exception would seem to be  the Eliza Gore line which married Thomas Goalder, aka Golden, except it is not. If Eliza married a Goalder, instead of a Golden, then it would be our own tree that we match with. There are no existing genealogy trees that claim Eliza and Thomas as parents. For purposes of genealogy, their existence was terminal OR possibly our Thomas Golden born about 1720-1730, place unknown, is their genealogical descendant.

What we can very positively say is that we have substantial DNA matches with Eliza’s Gore family.

There are no claimed descendants of the Thomas Golden / Goalder and Eliza Gore family.
Mystery #1: Direct-line surnamed Gore family members are DNA matches with our Goldens; and trees with the same Gores are abundant (>10) for each Golden line that branched between 1770-1790.
Mystery #2: Mystery #1 may be explainable by a Gore/Goare family member marrying a Meador family member. This seems unlikely to be the case but is worthy of exploring.
