Golding/Golden/Goulding et al Family History on Facebook
Updated 2017.08.05
Valentine Golden of (Queens) New York married Rachel Van Houten in Bergen, New Jersey on October 16th, 1825.
Parents of both Valentine and Rachel have not yet been identified. One undocumented source lists his parents as being David Golden and Elizabeth Hambrick. His birth is listed as 1797. (1)
Valentine was born about 1801 in New York. While some genealogies list Valentine as dying on 21 Mar 1852 at East Meadow, Nassau, New York, there is a Valentine Golden listed in 1860 as residing at 14 W. Brooklyn, Kings County, New York.
Am now looking to see if I can find some formal documentary source.
The Valentine Golden family appears in the 1830, 1840 and 1850 census for Queens, NY — although names of family members are only given for the 1850 census.
Below is the entry for the 1850 census in which the family was recorded as ‘Golder’. It seems to be relatively common for Goldens intermarried with Dutch families in the area to go back and forth between the use of Golden and Golder.
