Jacob Goulden arrived in South Carolina at some time before 14 Feb 1679 at Charles Towne (Charleston).[1]BALDWIN, AGNES LELAND. First Settlers of South Carolina 1670-1700. Easley, SC: Southern Historical Press, 1985. 268p. From where he came is unknown. Carolina ss/ You are forthwith to cause to be admeasured and laid out unto Jacob Goulden one hundred acres of land in some place not yet laid out or marked to be laid out for any other person or use; and if the same happen upon any navigable river or river capable of being navigable, you are to allow only the fifth part of the depth thereof by the waterside. And a certificate fully specifying the bounds and situation thereof you are to return to us with all convenient speed.
