Will if Joseph Goulding, February 16, 1684

Joseph Goulding of Yorkshire

Joseph Goulding designates wife Ellinour (Elleanor) Goulding (nee Neeltje Ellinor Claes Smit) as his executor and the entire estate goes to her for the duration of her life. The estate then passes to son Joseph Goulding. Joseph Jr must then pay his brothers and sister 20£ when they become adults. Joseph’s named siblings are named William, Nicolas and Ann Goulding. The Will was witnessed by William Goulding — probably his brother (1652-1727).

NOTE: This family has been the topic of some controversy lately (2017). One person wrote and claimed to be a descendant — and claimed that the father William Erwin Golder/Golden/Goulding returned to Ireland … and that the Dutch spellings of the name exist just because the Dutch officially controlled this part of New York at the time. … Maybe. Maybe not. I only know what available records say, and I do not change the spelling of a person’s name except to match what I find in records.

Discrepancies happen. You are welcome to send me documentation that shows that something is otherwise.

Thomas James Goulding Saunders

Thomas James Goulding

Thomas James Goulding is noted as the son of Thomas Saunders, Esq., Comptroller of the City of London, England.

Thomas was born 5 Feb 1826 and died 3 Jul 1856 at Saratoga County, New York.

Although this book lists Thomas as ‘Goulding’, his baptism record and gravestone lists him ‘Saunders’ or ‘Goulding Saunders’. His mother was named Susanna.

He was born and baptized on 23 Mar 1826 at Saint Saviour, Southwark, Surrey, England.
